Goodbye Homolje…

We wish to bring to the public’s attention that the recent decision to move forward with a detailed regulation plan for the Gornjak Wind Farm has caused great concern as we fear that these efforts to mislead the public by hiding the truth behind renewables propaganda will leave behind the destroyed and forever changed nature of this region.
The Homolje mountains are a testament to the beauty of untouched wilderness that takes your breath away. It is a rich landscape, with its rolling hills, deep gorges, winding rivers and caves. Behind those picturesque vistas lies a world teeming with life. The Homolje mountains can boast of rich flora and fauna, unmatched in their diversity and splendor. From gentle grasslands rich with wildflowers to majestic birds of prey and rare game, every corner of this untouched wilderness pulses with the rhythm of life.

The reason for the fear that this treasure of ours will be destroyed…. lies in the illegality of the decision itself, because the call for the development of the plan is in direct contradiction to the existing laws and international agreements that bind Serbia.

Homolje

But perhaps the real magic of the Homolje Mountains lies not only in the individual inhabitants, but in the delicate balance they maintain together.
The elusive Euro-Asian lynx, one of the largest predators in Europe, roams this area. Its presence, along with the presence of other endangered inhabitants like the enchanting great blue butterfly, eagles, gray wolf and other magnificent animals, adds a sense of mystique to this wild realm.
Here, every plant and every animal play a vital role in shaping the intricate web of life that sustains this fragile ecosystem.
As we stand on the brink of irreversible change, to invade this fragile ecosystem with heavy wind farm construction machinery and huge turbines, it is more important than ever to think and discuss the consequences of such behavior before embarking on this business.
Because in the quiet majesty of Homolj lies not only beauty, but also the key to our survival.
Why did the world recognize the beauty and values of this region and we treat it frivolously and arrogantly? Perhaps the reason is that we do not know what we have and the value of untouched nature.
However, the responsibility for the protection of these areas falls directly on the local community, which must act as guardians in accordance with the protective provisions of the regional plan.
And the reason for the fear that this treasure of ours will be destroyed….lies in the illegality of the decision itself, because the call for the development of the plan is in direct contradiction to the existing laws and international agreements that bind Serbia, including the law on planning and construction and key conventions such as are the Berne Convention, Nature 2000, the Habitats and Birds Directive. The key problem is the violation of hierarchical planning principles and the lack of expertise of the personnel involved in these activities.

Therefore, if we do not unite fiercely, ensuring the equal participation of experts and the public against profiteers and machinations of investors and foreign corporations, we can say GOODBYE HOMOLJE!
